title: Agents and Agents Hub
description: Choose your agents, install their CLIs, add your own, and keep their skills and rules in one place.
---

## Settings > Agents

Every agent has a switch. Turn on the ones you use and they appear in the New Thread picker, the sidebar's agent menu and on your phone. Drag the rows to set their order. Agents you never used wait under **More agents**.

Expand an agent's row to:

- **Install or update its CLI**. Ghostex uses the agent's official installer, or mise or npm where that fits, and updates it the way it was installed. **Update available** shows on the row when there is a newer version.
- Change its name, command, permission mode, and **default view** (Chat or Terminal).
- **Duplicate** it as a custom agent.

When an agent's CLI is missing or its resume hook is off, its row says so with a button to fix it, and **Fix all** fixes every one.

### Your own agents

**Add custom agent**, at the end of the list, adds any command-line agent, or a variant of a built-in one with other flags. **Works like** gives it that agent's logo, chat view, resume hook and permission handling.

### Defaults

- **Default Prompt Agent**: the agent Ghostex uses when it writes a prompt for you, like a PR review, Start work on the board, or the [help chat](/ask-ghostex).
- **Title Generation Agent**: a small, cheap model that names sessions and writes Catch me up summaries. You can also give it your own command.
- **Agent approvals**: whether supported agents ask before editing files or running commands. Projects can override it.
- **Trust project folders automatically** (on by default): Ghostex marks each project and worktree folder as trusted, so agents never stop at "Do you trust this folder?". Turn it off to answer yourself; **Trust and Remember** on the question then trusts that project for every agent.

### Session resume hooks

Hooks let Ghostex follow each agent's conversation, so a session comes back exactly where it was after sleep, a reload or a restart, and the chat and notifications know when the agent is working or needs you. Turn on **Install the hook when I turn on an agent** to skip the question.

From a terminal: `ghostex agent-cli status`, `ghostex agent-cli install <agent>` and `ghostex agent-cli update <agent>`.

## Agents Hub

**More Options > Agents Hub** in the sidebar lets you browse and edit the files your agents read, in five tabs (Cmd+1 to Cmd+5):

- **Skills**: each skill once, however many agents have it, with the agents that use it.
- **MDs**: your shared agent instructions and each profile's instruction files. Edit one and press Cmd+S to save.
- **Hooks** and **Configs & MCPs**.
- **Agent Sync**: see below.

### Agent Sync

Agent Sync keeps one copy of your skills, rules and hook scripts in `~/.agents` and points every agent on the computer at it. Its overview says how many agents are out of sync and why, in plain words.

**Review and fix** shows a plan before anything changes. Nothing is deleted: anything in the way is moved to a backup folder under `~/.local/state/ghostex/agent-sync-backups/`.

From a terminal: `ghostex agent-sync status`, `ghostex agent-sync plan` and `ghostex agent-sync apply --yes`.

:::tip[Ask Ghostex]
Try "How do I add my own agent command?" or "Install Codex for me."
