Workspaces and Work mode

Keep each company's work apart, and link your sessions to their tickets and pull requests.

Workspaces keep different parts of your work apart, for example one per company you work for and a Personal one. Work mode links each session to the ticket and pull request it belongs to, and the Work view lists them all.

Workspaces start off. Turn them on in Settings > Extensions > Store (Features).

Workspaces

Each workspace has its own projects, Spaces, Linear key, Claude account and Browser sign-ins. A window shows one workspace at a time.

  • Switch: the workspace button at the bottom left of the sidebar shows the workspace’s letter. Click the letter to jump to your other workspace, or the arrow next to it to pick any workspace, open its settings, or make a new one.
  • A window per workspace: the new-window button on a workspace’s row opens it in a window of its own.
  • Move a project: right-click it and choose Move to workspace. Its sessions and worktrees go with it.
  • Settings > Workspaces names each workspace, sets its color, makes it Work or Personal, picks its Primary tracker (Linear, or GitHub issues and projects), and sets its Linear API key and Claude account.

Every install starts with one workspace, Personal, that holds all your projects. On the phone, the letter tile at the left of the Space row picks which workspace the list shows.

Work mode

Work mode is on by default for projects in a Work workspace. For any other project, right-click it and choose Work Mode, or run ghostex work-mode on in its folder.

In a work-mode project, a session linked to a pull request, an issue or a Linear project gets a second line on its card with the PR’s state and checks and the issue’s status. Links come from:

  • The branch name, like yahia/spx-1245-copy-link, on its own.
  • By hand: right-click the session and choose Link to, then pick a pull request, issue or project. Back to automatic lets the branch decide again.

When a linked PR is merged, the card offers Clean up (remove the session’s worktree and park it) or Keep.

Linear status needs a Linear API key (Settings > Workspaces). GitHub status comes from gh, so sign in with gh auth login.

Start from a ticket

  • New ticket: choose Create Linear Ticket… (or Create GitHub Issue…) from a project’s ⋯ menu. With Start work now on, Ghostex creates the ticket and starts the agent you pick in a new worktree on the ticket’s branch.
  • An existing ticket: run ghostex work-mode start SPX-1245 (or #218 for a GitHub issue, or a PR link). A second session on the same ticket joins the first one’s worktree.

The Work view

The Work view lists the tickets and pull requests of every work-mode project in the window, newest change first, with Assigned to me on. Open it with the briefcase at the top of the sidebar, or press W in the view picker.

  • Filter and View narrow the list and group it, for example by status, repo or pull request state.
  • A green dot means one of your sessions is working on it right now.
  • Click a row for its details: the ticket and its comments, the PR with each check and review, videos, and the linked sessions.
  • Start chat starts a session in a new worktree on the ticket’s branch. Its menu has Link to current session and Start in cloud, which starts a Claude cloud session on the ticket.

Teams and Slack

A Work workspace can share a team backend, your team’s own Convex project, so teammates can start work from Slack with @Ghostex cloud <what to do> or @Ghostex local <what to do> in a thread. It is set up from the command line with ghostex team deploy, and teammates join with an invite link. Settings > Workspaces shows the team, its Slack app and its Team flow. Run ghostex team --help for the full setup.
